Drinking and driving isn't cool. Neither is making excuses.

We've all heard people say "I always make it home after a few," "I can handle my liquor," or "One more drink won't hurt." But if you drink and drive, you put yourself and others at risk.

ICBC and the police are sending a message to impaired drivers this summer - it's time to bury all excuses for drinking and driving.  Along with ICBC's awareness campaign, police forces across the province are stepping up enforcement to combat drinking and driving.

Although the Drinking Driving CounterAttack campaign is one of the many initiatives that has helped reduce B.C.'s alcohol-related crash fatalities by some 50 per cent over the past 30 years, on average, 116 people still die each year in alcohol-related crashes.*

If you plan on drinking, plan ahead to get home safely:

  • Set aside money for a cab or public transit
  • Choose a designated driver
  • Get a ride with a sober friend or family member

Never let a person who's been drinking alcohol drive

Flyte Enterprises and Rosborough & Company Rewarded for their Community Involvement by Yellow Pages Group’s Make It Real Program

Flyte Enterprises designs and implements green management solutions for clients who wish to holistically improve health, safety and environmental awareness in the workplace. The Company is committed to fighting the climate change crisis by developing advanced custodial cleaning practices and educating clients about high-risk cleaning chemicals that have a negative impact on human health and the environment.

“We are honoured to have been selected as one of the 2008 Make it Real award recipients and would like to thank Yellow Pages Group for recognizing the importance of corporate social responsibility,” said Dennis Shepit, President of Flyte Enterprises. “Our goal is to educate businesses on the importance of greening their workplace and minimizing their own environmental impact.”

Rosborough & Company raised close to $10,000 by supporting 19 of its 26 employees who participated in the CIBC – Run for the Cure last year. The organization believes in the importance of employee volunteer and encourages its employees to do so.

“We are proud and delighted to acknowledge the remarkable contributions being made by small businesses across the country towards the betterment of their communities,” underlines Annie Marsolais, Director of Corporate Communications for Yellow Pages Group. “These companies genuinely deserve a tip of the hat, and we hope that they will serve as models for other businesses when it comes to lending a helping hand to worthy causes.”

Local charities also benefit from this unique program

In accordance with the terms of the Make It Real program, which calls for winners to donate a portion of their prize to a beneficiary organization of their choice, Flyte Enterprises will donate $1,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society while Rosborough & Company will donate $500 to the CIBC – Run for the Cure.

Open to small businesses of 50 employees or less, YPG’s annual Make It Real program is designed to recognize and reward companies that have shown an exceptional degree of social responsibility.
