October 27, 2020 – Abbotsford, BC – The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce participated in the 2020 Canadian Chamber of Commerce AGM & Policy Convention Oct 26th & 27th, joining nearly 1,000 virtual participants. Chambers, members, and stakeholders from across the nation, from the network of the Canadian Chamber’s over 200,000 membership base, joined together to focus on business resiliency and being the voice of business to government.
“We persevered the important dialogue and policy making necessary for making strong recommendations to government. The communications the Canadian Chamber and your local Chamber have with all levels of government are needed to support local businesses, economic growth and investment in key sectors while balancing connected health and social issues,” said Melinda Friesen, President of the Abbotsford Chamber.
During the conference chambers and stakeholders discussed the challenges in the last year and lessons learned on new ways of doing business, connecting with members and ways forward through the pandemic. Speakers included the Prime Minister of Canada, the Leader of the Official Opposition, and a popular panel on “Canada-US Issues” with the CEO of the USA Chamber and former US and Canadian Ambassadors. The upcoming presidential election and what the outcome means for Canada-US relations was top of mind.
“The virtual platform, quality of speakers, discussion, and advocacy for small and medium sized businesses in Canada was impressive,” said Katerina Anastasiadis, Executive Director of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud that our policies, on strengthening Canada’s investment framework and second on enabling a more sustainable fruits and vegetables local market passed with high support.”
