ABBOTSFORD B.C. | January 6th, 2025 – Following today’s announcement from Justin Trudeau of his plan to resign as leader of the Liberal Party and Prime Minister of Canada, the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce is reinforcing the importance of pro-growth policies and support for small business at this critical time for Canada’s economy.
As the voice for Abbotsford’s businesses, the Chamber will continue to engage with all levels of government to advocate for a stable and supportive operating environment.
"Canada is facing significant economic challenges, with slowing growth, rising inflation, and increasing concerns about affordability for everyday Canadians. These challenges demand bold leadership and decisive action. As we prepare for a change in leadership, we see an opportunity for renewed focus on the needs of small businesses and entrepreneurs. As the backbone of our local economies, small businesses deserve thoughtful, innovative policies that reduce barriers, foster growth, and encourage sustainability," said Craig Toews, Acting CEO of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.
Over the past months, the Chamber has been particularly vocal on the need for federal investment in infrastructure, including major investments in trade-enabling infrastructure through the expansion of Highway 1, funding for rapid transportation connecting the growing Fraser Valley with Metro Vancouver, and flood mitigation infrastructure to protect the Sumas Prairie which is home to Canada’s most productive agricultural land.
