Canadian business people or companies looking to do business in some Middle Eastern countries often require a package of special documentation that introduces them to potential business partners in other countries. Providing such a letter is a signal of business legitimacy. The stamp of a Board of Trade or Chamber of Commerce on such a document gives credence and authenticity to the Canadian businessperson. Such letters will only be issued to members of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.

Fees: Free for members only

The Chamber will issue letters verifying membership in good standing.

“A Certificate of Origin (CoO) is an important international trade document, certifying that goods in a particular export shipment were wholly obtained, produced, manufactured, or processed in a specific country. This document declares the nationality of your product and serves as an official declaration by the exporter to meet customs or trade requirements abroad. The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce provides Certificates of Origin as an essential trade service, available to both members and non-members.”

How to Obtain a Certificate of Origin

  • Please note that not all Chamber staff are authorized to process Certificates of Origin. If you require certification, you must make an appointment in advance by emailing hello@abbotsfordchamber.com or booking through the link below.

  • Before visiting our office, please ensure that all required documentation is completed and available for review. Templates and references are available below for your convenience.

Required Documentation

  • To enroll in the Certificate of Origin program, please prepare the following:
    • Certificate of Origin — completed on the Chamber template (download below).
    • Letter of Waiver — must be notarized (see template below).
    • Shipper’s Affidavit or Invoice — accompanying the Certificate of Origin.
    • Provincial Business Registration Documents — showing your company name, address, directors, and confirmation of good standing. These are your company docuements: Please see the reference sample

Notarization & Waiver Option

  • For liability reasons, all documents submitted to the Chamber must be notarized before certification.
  • To simplify this process, you may submit a notarized Letter of Waiver, which eliminates the need to notarize each document individually. Once a notarized waiver is on file, subsequent documents for certification do not require additional notarization.
  • During your initial enrollment, a notarized copy of your organization’s business registration documents is also required. These can be obtained through a corporate search at BC Online, or through your company’s legal representative.
